Alabama Accountability Act

The Alabama Accountability Act (AAA), passed in 2013 and amended in 2015, established a statewide scholarship program for low-income students to attend public or private schools. AAA is funded by a tax credit donations, and the scholarship awards are managed by individual Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs).

For example, we operate the Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund and C2 Opportunity Scholarships. Scholarship amounts vary per SGO, but at maximum amount is $10,000 per academic year.

All students receiving scholarships must meet family income eligibility requirements. Priority is given to students who are zoned to attend a failing public school as designated by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE). Funds can only be used to cover mandatory fees and tuition at schools participating in the program.
